Top 3 Lazy Sunday must haves

12 Aug

Issue 4

With the work week over and all the partying done, Sundays are the best days to just sit back and relax. What better way, than sitting at the park and soak up some much need rays of sunlight and doing absolutely NOTHING.

OK, so maybe not ‘nothing’, cause if it was me, I would be bored out of my mind. Maybe read a book, listen some tunes and most important of all… feed the tummy! You want to be dressed as ‘bummy’ as possible without looking like a complete dag, just incase you happen to bump into some friends. So here are some things that I would recommend.

A good pair of tights/leggings are a good option. they are lightweight  and not restrictive (like jeans, so you can eat as much as you want). You don’t want to be overdressed for a relaxing day in the park.

FOREVER 21

Forever 21 Fab Leggings £4.50

Sunglasses are a must! You want to look trendy as well as stopping the sun from hurting your eyes. Here are 2 that I like and S and P both like diferent ones, so they have both made it!

TIFFANY

S choice “A bit of colour for the weekend’

Tiffany 1873 rectangular glasses RRP $450 AU

P choice “Simple and elegant”

Tiffany Signature Rectangular Glasses RRP $450 AU

And to finish off the look, a hoodie. Its long enough so that if it does get chilly you don’t need you won’t get cold which elimnates the need to carry another jacket with you (I know I hate to have to hold my jacket when it gets too hot).

ASOS

Top 3 Work must haves

6 Aug

Issue 3

Work, work, work. We spend most of our time slaving away at work, trying to earn a buck so that we can afford the luxuries in life (and also to pay bills). Gone are the days where we can wake up late and just throw on our school uniform, we now have to decide ourselves what is considered business appropriate. A good indication of how you should dress, is how the other people in your office dress. Some might dress smart and others would dress full corporate wear (i.e suits). The latter would apply in situations where you would have to meet with clients.

As S  would say ‘if you don’t want to be a hoochi’ you should dress appropriately.

So, I happen to be walking around the shops during my lunch break (research of course)  and this business shirt caught my eye. It’s a bit more formal for my work, but every now and then I like to look extra nice at work. A good business shirt is also handy for those all important interviews/client meetings etc.

A black skirt is a versatile item of clothing to have as well. You can dress it up or down depending on what type of top and shoes you match with it.

Makeup Brushes

5 Aug

After doing my Makeup course years ago now, I always have my eyes peeled for anything new in the makeup space, and the one thing I have noticed is people don’t talk much about makeup brushes and there purpose of them so here are my thoughts and a simple guide to choosing brushes. As you can imagin there are so many out there that serve a different purpose, if your just starting out i would suggest you buy the essential ones. Ones that you will be using everyday! So here are my essential brushes.

L-R – Badger Eye shadow brush, Badger Blush Brush,Synthetic  Foundation Brush and Synthetic Powder Brush.

As a lot people say that purchasing makeup brushes are a personal choice. They say this because it’s the way you want the brush to feel on your face. Remember your face is sensitive and you don’t want to be choosing a brush that has harsh bristle.

Makeup brushes are made with different types of hair and here are few.

-         Synthetic  (Taklon and Nylon)

-         Pure Squirrel

-         Goat Hair

-         Sable

-         Pony Hair

-         Badger Hair

-         Phami Hair

Here are a few simple  tips to help choose the right brush.

-  Pick a brush that your comfortable with which can be the types of hair that it is made with.

-  Buy a brush that you need and dont let the Sales assistant persuade you otherwise you end up with a brush you may never use.

-  Read the reviews if your buying them online.

- Know the purpose of the brushes.

- When buying them online, make sure  you shop around as you might find sites that sell the same product for cheaper

Now a days you can purchase majority of brushes online so here are the 2 Onlines shops that i have purchased my brushes from.

Sigma beauty

Costal Scents

One last thing that is also important is to make sure you wash your brushes before using them, you can do this by washing them in warm soapie water.

Hope this post is useful for those who are looking at purchasing some new brushes. Stayed tuned for next weeks issue.

Macaroon Craze

29 Jul

Issue 2

Recently i have been inspired by people making macaroons or T would call it a macaroon craze lol so after failing at the first attempt i decided to go on hunt to find an easier recipe, until S gave me one that she had used previously which she guaranteed that it actually worked and wasn’t going to turn out like my previously failed batch.

After coming from a long day at work i set off to make this full proof recipe. So i sifted the almond meal, and icing sugar twice, i then turned to my trusty kitchen aid to mix the egg whites until light and fluffy, then mixing in the sugar and food coloring. I was now set to mix in the dry ingredients, finally i was ready to pipe away. I then set the tray aside for 20min so set and then placed in the oven for 12 minutes at 170 degrees.

As i waited patiently by the oven i realised that they have feet, so as S told me when you see feet you know it worked, so you can imagine how happy i was when i saw them…

Ta da!

This was my second attempt, even though it didn’t turned out fantastic but it was still good for the second attempt.

All pretty up

This was my third attempt and by now T said i was in macaroon craze lol

feet :)

Finished result with butter cream

After all the attempts of making these Lil pretty macaroons i will defiantly be making more. S has already given me the next challenge to make the Baroque ones. So make sure you keep an eye out :)

29 Jul

Issue 2

Tuesday came around again, and for some reason it seemed faster than the last one.  So what was on the menu this week?

We had

  • Roast Chicken
  • Garlic and Rosemary Potatoe Chips
  • Chocolate Fondant

This week i thought maybe i could make some macaroons after being inspired by other people making them and the prettiness of how you can make them i thought i would give it go, but to only fail. But i did not let that put me down i tried it again the next day with a recipe S gave me and they turned out perfect!

Top 3 Birthday Girl Must haves

29 Jul

Issue 2

It’s birthday time and my birthday is just around the corner. All year round, all the Trufflepiggies have been hearing from me is about my non-stop ‘wants’ but come the month before my birthday, they as ‘What do you want for your birthday?’ and my reply….’oh, there’s nothing that I really want’ haha how is that even possible when I am the biggest shop-a-holic out there?

What better way to be spoilt or spoil yourself than getting a present that comes in a light blue bo tied with a white ribbon. yes girls, you all know what I am talking about …. Tiffany! The Trufflepiggies have recently been purchasing the latest craze Tiffany’s have to offer, The Key. There are so many different types to choose from and when you have decided on the desired key you need to choose the necklace as well. This is the one that I am planning to get.

Tiffany key

Tiffanys - Fleur de lis key pendant RRP $370AUD

Jewelery is a good option for a present and vintage inspired jewelry, I think particularly looks good. I’m not too keen on extravagant bling as they go out of fashion and doesn’t match with many items. then it just sits in you jewelry box collecting dust, what a waste. Swarovski have a new range in stores and here is the one that has caught my eye.

Swarovski Earings

Swarovksi - Mimosa Oval Pieced Earrings RRP $130 AUD

I love dresses… like LOVE dresses LOL and I have a cupboard full of them. I have a habit of not pulling off the price tags on my clothing until I have worn the item, so there are a few (OK maybe more than a few) dresses that still have their price tags on them. They will get worn eventually. This is because, if i see a dress I like, rather than waiting for/having an occasion to wear it to, I just buy it right there and then. I can’t wait, waiting means that when an occasion foes present itself. the dress in my size is no longer available. So here is a dress from my favourite store that I will be getting for my birthday. YAY

Rodeo Show Dress

Rodeo Show - Kayla Dress - RRP $280 AUD

Stay tuned next week for the Top 3 Work day must haves..
